THE first ever Dragon Boat Race in St Ives on the River Great Ouse was enjoyed by more than 600 people in the scorching sunshine of Sunday

Organised by St Ives Rowing Club, the event attracted about 300 people to take part in the rowing, which continued all day in several heats.

The overall winner, out of the 18 teams, was team 2012, the Huntingdon Olympic Gym team, including Commonwealth medalist, Louis Smith. Second was The World Police, a team of Americans from RAF Molesworth. Third was Gerry's Babes, from The Oliver Cromwell Pub in St Ives and fourth was The Drunken Dragons from The Tap Room in St Ives.

Other teams included Tim's Tarts, teachers from Ramsey Abbey School; The 7 Waves, from The Seven Wives pub in St Ives; Bluntisham Dragon Bashers, Bluntisham Cricket Club; Squashed Dragons, Huntingdon Squash Club; Penfold Paddlers from Leap Frog in St Ives; Rowers' Revenge, St Ives Rowing Club; Domino Dragons, from Domino printers in Bar Hill; The Masters, Thomas Morris Estate Agents; Anglian Dragons, from Anglia Circuits; Hawaii 50 from Fonestars; Siti Dragons, from St Ives Town Centre Initiative; Basia's Dragons entered by Basia Kondratowich from St Ives; and A'Diva Babes from A'Diva Hair Design in St Ives.
