I HAVE always thought a good test for demos is to imagine the track playing on the radio. Does it sound out of place? Would your favourite station play it instead of the latest release by James Blunt or The Foo Fighters?

This recommended download passes with flying colours. Trevor Jones, from Warboys, has just completed his best track yet and it's available free online.

Like much of his material, it has an extremely laid-back feel - complete with beautiful piano riffs, soaring guitar solo and a wonderfully infectious melody. It won't please the hard rock fans, but anyone who loves the best ballads of Elton John, and the Scissor Sisters will be in heaven.

It's also exactly what record companies across the country must pray to receive in their mailbags each morning - so check out the track online before it reaches you via the nation's FM airwaves. You can also see Trevor Jones live at this year's St Ives Town Initiative Summer Festival.

He will be playing as part of the music line-up for the Riverside Gala on Nobles Field on July 15 between 10am and 8pm.
