WELL done The Hunts Post. What a wonderful editorial comment regarding the proposed road scheme in Huntingdon (May 17).
I know I speak for many in Godmanchester, as traffic was one of the main issues discussed during the recent election campaign.
We are fed up with the volume of traffic using our roads. Every time the A14 gets a problem, Godmanchester pays the price. We get everything off the A14 and, as can be seen by the recent damage on the bridge linking us with Huntingdon, drivers do not show any respect for our quality of life.
I am upset by the volume of large vehicles that use our small roads. I include the use of double decker buses where a single deck smaller bus would be adequate. Our roads are narrow and they create large pot holes. Who finishes up paying for this through traffic? It is the residents, of course, not the owner of the lorries or the bus companies.
I am also sad to see that Godmanchester is offering up more land for development without the proper infrastructure being put in place.
Returning to your excellent editorial that points out that Huntingdon, Godmanchester, Fenstanton and Brampton have better cause to complain about the present road than the Offords and Hilton do about the new one.
Is the Offords' case about consultation? Is the Offords' case that they want to move the A14 back to CHUMMS route? Is the Offords' case that they would prefer to see the A14 run more near residential property than in the open countryside?
How about coming clean, Offords, and telling everybody the truth. Maybe then we can get on and build a road that does not disrupt our lives. Do the Offords care or realise how many people have died or been injured during the time they have delayed the new A14?
