A FAMILY of Jack Russells has been found dumped on the roadside in Sawtry Fen.The two adult dogs and their six-day-old puppy were discovered by a member of the public who took them to Wood Green Animal Shelters in Godmanchester. The female dog has died. The male adult was found wandering in the road and the female adult was crouched under a nearby bush with the puppy. The female has overgrown nails and an abscess on her side. She died on the journey to the animal shelter.Vanessa Cunningham, head nurse at Wood Green Animal Shelters said: "These dogs were clearly abandoned. The puppy would not have survived as long as it has if it had been outside for a long time and it is unlikely that they have escaped from anywhere as the puppy has not opened its eyes yet."The puppy, Apollo, is being fostered by a family in Newmarket until he is old enough to be re-homed and the male adult, who has been named Snuffles by Wood Green staff, is being looked after at the shelter. The new year saw another dog abandoned outside the exit gates of the animal shelter. The four-year-old male miniature schnauzer, named Chester by staff, was found in a cage in an extremely poor condition.Wood Green have urged anyone who cannot for whatever reason look after their pets to please contact them rather than just abandoning animals.Information: If you have any information about the Jack Russells or Chester Wood Green Animal Shelters on 08701 90 40 90 or visit www.woodgreen.org.uk
