HUNTINGDON police are warning people to be vigilant following two distraction thefts in the town.The incidents, both in Ambury Road, happened on Sunday, December 18, at 4pm and 5pm.A woman knocked on the doors of two elderly residents and was allowed inside. She kept the victims talking while a man entered the houses. Police said a large quantity of cash was stolen.Pc Phil Carpenter from the community safety unit said: "These types of offences are incredibly distressing, and we are determined to do everything possible to trace these offenders."We have had cases where people have lost their life savings to the heartless actions of these criminals. "If you have an elderly relative please talk to them about these type of offences and tell them that it is unwise to keep large sums of money at home."Please follow the 'lock, stop, chain, check' code - ensure that all entry points to your house are locked, particularly before answering the door."Stop and consider if you are expecting anyone, use the chain on the door before opening it, and most importantly, always check for photographic identification."If you do not think they are genuine, dial 999 immediately.
