I WOULD, through your newspaper, like to tell your readers about an excellent value for money day out.

My wife and I and some friends on Sunday, August 14, enjoyed the 'Day Ticket to St Ives' experience being promoted by FESt and the St Ives Corn Exchange. Our day started on the Quay at St Ives where we were met by Jim Burt who had arranged our tickets. We were introduced to Chris, the captain of our launch, and his crew, who were excellent, and with their expert help we were able to get one of the less mobile members of our party on board.

Then there followed an interesting, amusing and quiet cruise, courtesy of the St Ives Electric Boat Company, along a quite busy and well utilised River Great Ouse for around an hour, then back to the quayside and all safely deposited back on shore.

Straight across the quay and into Number Four restaurant where again friendly and really helpful staff awaited us to enjoy a nice, tasty and filling two-course lunch - a restaurant that we will definitely be visiting again.

After this leisurely lunch our party walked (and wheeled) its way through St Ives up to the Norris Museum, an enjoyable small museum with plenty of things to interest young and old alike, along with some pretty gardens to explore.

Out from there to the music on the Waits, chairs waiting for us, where we enjoyed the music of Ethel's Cats for a while.

During their break we continued our journey to nearby Holt Island nature reserve where we were delighted to discover that our wheelchair user could easily get to view the sights by virtue of the recently-installed wheelchair-friendly raised boardwalk.

We wandered back to the Waits and enjoyed some more of the performance before finally making our way to the Corn Exchange. Met again by Jim and his wife, we were entertained with tea and biscuits and a good chat about our day's experience.

Even though most of our party lives in St Ives we had started to take this lovely town for granted, but this day out enabled us to enjoy and get to know our local area a lot better, and in a relaxing manner.

Considering that the whole day was for the all-inclusive price of £19.50 each, we considered it excellent value for money.

Jim will happily arrange a 'Day Ticket for St Ives' for anyone who is interested.

Give it a go - you might discover more about our area than you realise. We certainly did.
