In the current climate of stringency in the public sector, may I ask that our respective councils of all shapes and sizes resist the temptation to spend our money on projects we neither want nor need.

I am sure your readers could add to a list, but may I start with examples such as the contra-flow bus lane on Huntingdon ring road and the rarely used two-minute-saving bus route on the Old Houghton Road in Hartford? These alone have cost the taxpayer some �500,000, not to mention, of course, the great white guided elephant.
