Over £1,000 was raised at the Dragon Boat Races in St Ives on Sunday for a young man suffering from cancer.
The cash was raised for Richard Legg, 29, from Sawtry by the boat crewed by Myers Beds and The Music Box night club in St Ives. It includes a cheque for £500 put in the collection bucket by Mr Legg's uncle and aunt, Diane and Pat Charter from Bluntisham.
The crew of 12, were each sponsored. Club promoter Shaun Collins, known as "Moonie", said the money was still pouring in.
Mr Legg's family is working to raise £50,000 to send him to Germany for treatment for his final stage skin cancer, which has also reached his brain.
His sister, Tara Kingston from St Ives, said a clinic had been found in Bad Heilbrunne and it was hoped that treatment could start this month.
The campaign started off with £835 raised in June by Mrs Kingston and her sister, Trudy Smith from Wistow, at a cake sale, raffle and tombola at The Rainbow Store in St Ives.
This has now snowballed into a series of events. An appeal has gone out for home-made cakes for the next fundraiser on Saturday at The Elephant and Castle pub in Woodwalton. A fun day will include an auction with prizes such as holiday accommodation in Spain. There will be an assault course, dancers from Bodywork in Cambridge, crafts, barbecue, a karate show, and fireworks at 10.30pm, sponsored by The Fireplace Centre in Godmanchester.
Mrs Kingston said: "The whole family wants to thank everyone who has helped us, including the dragon boat crew, St Ives Rowing Club who gave the boat for free and Gary Jolly, landlord of the Lord Protector in Huntingdon, who paid for the insurance."
