THE average earnings in Cambridgeshire are the highest in the East of England, according to figures revealed in a national survey. Full-time workers in the county were found to have an average gross annual income of \u00A330,013 compared with \u00A325,685 in Peterborough and an average UK figure of \u00A328,210. Norfolk fared the worst in the region with an average of \u00A323,826 per year. The East of England average wage was \u00A327,866 per annum. The figures were taken from the 2005 survey of hours and earnings published by the Office for National Statistics and analysed by the GMB union. The findings also revealed that of the 201 areas surveyed, just 48 counties or boroughs had average earnings higher than the UK average. Unsurprisingly, London came out top for earnings with an average of \u00A341,759 while Northern Ireland was the lowest earnings with \u00A323,521.
