TAXI fares in Huntingdonshire could be increased. The price rise, the first since January 2005, will be considered by Huntingdonshire District Council on Tuesday. The proposals would see customers paying £2.50 for a 900m journey plus 10p for each subsequent 112 metres. The current rate is £2.50 for 1km and 10p for each 125m. For journeys between 11.30pm and 7.30am and for those on Sundays and Bank Holidays, the price would be £2.50 for the first 594m and 10p for each 87m. Passengers currently pay £2.50 for 660m journey and 10p for each subsequent 95m. Passengers would also have to pay a waiting time charge of 10p for each 27-second period (currently 30 seconds). If agreed by HDC, the changes would have to be advertised and time allowed for any objections to be raised and then considered by the council.
