RAMSEY has significantly enlarged its conservation area to include areas of open land to the north and south of the town. The boundary now includes the residential areas such as Bury Road, Biggin Lane, Station Road and Blenheim Road. The town has also launched a management plan for 2006 that includes enhanced lighting in Little Whyte and improvements within Great Whyte. The effect of the proposals is that works to all trees over a certain size will require notification to the council. Approval will also need to be given to demolition works as well as planning permission being required for some developments which would otherwise be exempt. Executive councillor for planning strategy, Councillor Nick Guyatt, said: "This is all part of the vision to enhance Ramsey's character and identity.
