CONMEN stole an envelope containing cash after one of them tricked his way into a home in Bluntisham, pretending he needed to check its electricity sockets.

Cambridgeshire police have warned residents to be on their guard against this latest con, which was used at the home of an 84-year-old in The Hawthorns at 5.50pm last Monday.

The woman answered her door to the man, who she thought was her neighbour, and claimed there were sparks in her back garden. He asked to check her sockets and visited all rooms in her house.

The man then left but returned shortly afterwards with a second man.

The first man then snatched an envelope out of the woman's hand and both men ran from the house.

Trevor Bracken, community safety manager, said: "The offenders have come up with an excuse about why they need to enter someone's home.

"Please remember to keep your doors locked, and only allow someone into your home if you are sure who they are, regardless of the reasons they give to get access to your house.
