I SEE that County Councillors Sir Peter Brown and Laine Kadic and District Councillor Keith Baker have now taken up the matters of lay-bys and the lack of truck stop facilities by complaining about the Night Owl site at Alconbury being given planning permission for use other than as a truck stop.

I have also noticed a continuation of the move to close lay-bys rather than make them safer, which would be to the detriment of all motorists, not just heavy goods drivers.

I have not yet noticed a rush of enthusiasm by local authorities to comment on these issues. John Bridge [chief executive of Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce and chairman of British Hauliers] might also wish to put forward the professional drivers' point of view.
