IN these days of constantly being reminded about climate change - and about our responsibility to not use our vehicles at every opportunity, not to travel by plane, turn off standby lights on equipment, use low-energy light bulbs - why is Huntingdon Town Council looking to raise £10,000 for Christmas lights and the "big switch on"?

Ask yourself, Huntingdon Town Council, why we should do our bit, when you plan to waste £10,000 and whatever the costs of running these lights are - let alone contribute to climate change.

I'm no Christmas Scrooge, but I most certainly object to this total waste of money and environmental resources. They are not vital to our everyday living.
