A WRITING competition for school children with a cash prize of up to £840 has been launched in Huntingdon with the support of Sir John Major.

The competition, which is open to St Peter's and Hinchingbrooke pupils, asks students to write a history of their school in no more than 1,500 words. The competition is also open to students who are starting at either Hinchingbrooke or St Peter's in September. It is hoped the competition will encourage young people to learn about the history of their school.

Prizes worth a total of £840 will be awarded to the top three entries and the winners will also receive certificates, signed by Sir John Major and Mayor of Huntingdon, Cllr Jennifer Sarabia.

INFORMATION: Entries must be submitted for the attention of the Mayor of Huntingdon, to the Town Council Offices, 1 Trinity Place, Hartford Road, Huntingdon, PE29 3QA or submitted by students to their school, by Friday, September 7. The entrant's name, year group and school should be clearly indicated on the entry.
