AN opportunity to gain an insight into the work of firefighters is being offered to Cambridgeshire teenagers.

Just 10 places on the 42-week cadet training scheme are available at Huntingdon Fire Station from this September.

Rob Allport, blue watch manager and senior cadet instructor at Huntingdon, said: "This is a great way for teenagers to gain an insight into the work of firefighters while building up their skills and keeping fit."

The lucky cadets will be provided with lightweight uniforms and will take part in fire and rescue drills.

Cadets should be committed, hard-working, willing to work in a team and be between the ages of 14 and 17. Training sessions will be run by senior firefighter volunteers and will take place for two hours every Thursday night. Closing date for entries is June 23.

INFORMATION: Cadets schemes are taking place across the county. To apply for an application pack visit your local fire station.
