CHILDREN and staff at Huntingdon's Hansel and Gretel pre-school playgroup celebrated the Chinese New Year. They danced to Chinese music with a dragon, tasted Chinese dishes and tried to use chopsticks. The children also made hats, lanterns and fans with an oriental theme.

And youngsters at Eaton Socon Pre-School also celebrated Chinese New Year with chopsticks and fortune cookies.

More than 40 dressed in oriental costume and created a dragon from printed materials. With the help of home-made musical instruments, they acted out the story of Niam, which tells of the origins of the celebration.

They also had a taster of some exotic dishes thanks to the Hong Kong Restaurant, in St Neots, and were presented with traditional "lucky bags" - red envelopes containing shiny coins.

Jodie and Georgia are pictured getting to grips with their chopsticks.
