The carnival princesses and attendants for Somersham Carnival were crowned on Monday night by the first ever princess from 1977, Sue Barnett.

The week-long carnival, which began last Saturday with a red, white and blue children's party, continues tonight (Wednesday) with a village history evening and tomorrow (Thursday) with the S-Factor, a talent show for juniors and adults.

There is also the annual walk around the village and judging for the best-dressed shop or house window is on Friday.

The main event on Saturday will start with the carnival float procession which leaves from The Trundle at 1pm. The theme this year is 1977 and the past 30 years.

Trophies and prizes will be presented by the MP for North West Cambridgeshire, Shailesh Vara. The carnival ends on Sunday with the Churches of Somersham Celebration Service at St John the Baptist Church.
