Car parking charges and thanks to finders and givers

AS a commuter from St Neots I read with interest your article regarding anger about increasing car parking charges at the town’s station (June 2).

I too am extremely concerned and last year, after an 11 per cent increase in annual charges, I wrote to First Capital Connect’s MD who advised me that she was confident that FCC’s charges remained competitive within the local market.

Not satisfied with this response I then wrote to my MP Andrew Lansley who referred to correspondence from Lord Adonis (then Minister of Transport) which said the fees were necessary for the continued maintenance of parking facilities and security systems.

I feel these justifications from FCC and the Minister of Transport were nothing more than a smoke screen behind which FCC continues to increase its charges and therefore boost its profits, regardless of its customers’ ability to pay or any sense of fair play.

I believe something should be done to regulate FCC’s ability to continue increasing its prices, seemingly with impunity. I think people can do something about it by putting pressure on FCC by writing to their MPs.

Now we have a new Goverment and my MP is a member of the Cabinet, I shall writing to him once again to see what pressure he can bring to bear, and I strongly encourage others to do the same.

ON May 15, 2010 a street collection in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind was held in St Ives town where a total of �767.81 was raised. There were no expenses.

All the money raised will go towards the training of guide dogs for the blind and partially sighted people.

I would like to thank the public for their generous contributions and for the help we received from our helpers, guide dog owners and guide dog puppy walkers.
