TOP HONOURS: Young people were honoured for their hard work and dedication at Cambridgeshire County Council’s Don’t Waste Your Talent youth service awards 2011. More than 70 people attended the event at the Chaos Youth Centre, next to Abbey College, Ramsey. A team of nine youngsters organised the event, which was based on the theme of recycling and re-use, and included a performance by Charlie Lake, winner of the Huntingdonshire regional heat for Cambridgeshire’s Got Talent. Fourteen gongs were awarded during the night. Among the winners were the St Ives Standing Tall team for the Youth Work Achievement Award, and the Ramsey, Sawtry and Yaxley E-team, who were given the Youth Work & Environment Award. Helping to put the night together was arts development manager Nathan Jones of Ely-based company ADeC Arts. He said: “All the young people involved in the award event on Friday did exceptionally well.
“The event ran smoothly and professionally and the team made the best use of the venue and resources available to them. As with most events, a real gauge of success is the response of the audience and, judging by the buzz in the room and the smiling faces, everyone present viewed the show as a triumph.
“The team worked hard and should be very proud of their achievement”.
