I WRITE in consternation. I find it hard to believe that a newspaper such as yours would choose to publish such an overtly racist letter as Cyril Wise's (June 13). I challenge Mr Wise to define fully this 'English' that he holds so dear.

May I also take this opportunity to remind him and other bigots of his kind of the words of Oscar Wilde that 'patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel'.
