A temporary road closure has been put in place in St Ives this afternoon after a water main burst causing water to flood over the carriageway.

Diversions have also been set up warning drivers to find alternate routes and avoid the area.

Cambridge Water has confirmed that Needingworth Road on the A1123 was closed at 1.30pm after the 10-inch water main burst and flooded the road outside Silvaco House on the Compass Point Business Park.

Andy Cuthill, water supply manager for Cambridge Water, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Our employees and network partners are working on site and using all available resources to ensure the burst main is repaired so the road can be opened as quickly as possible. We will continue to update customers regarding the situation as more information becomes available.”
