NEW devices to improve diagnosis and treatment, as well as fresh approaches to medical practices are just some of the innovations which have come out of the East of England's NHS trusts in the past year.
Staff at Health Enterprise East (HEE), the regional NHS innovation group based at Papworth Hospital, are celebrating their second anniversary with the announcement of a whole range of ideas.
Over the past year, the group has handled 65 innovations - of these 20 are being developed and a further 17 evaluated.
Already in commercial production and enjoying sales are the Danrik Wedge (a cushion specially designed to help with cervical smear tests), MAX (a multimedia campaign to demonstrate the best practice method of handwashing) and the Burn-bin Cabinet (for the disposal of used needles).
