A billion-pound package of road improvements for the east of England have been announced by the government today (Friday) and include an upgrade of the A428 near St Neots.
Plans to improve journeys for drivers on some of the busiest roads in the eastern region will be launched over the next three months, according to transport secretary Chris Grayling
The eight schemes, costing £1.1 billion, are designed to reduce congestion, improve safety and boost the economy, and will include improvements on the A428 between the Caxton Gibbet roundabout in Cambridgeshire and the Black Cat roundabout in Bedfordshire
“The Government is making a record investment to improve our motorways and major ‘A’ roads across the country to get motorists to their destinations more quickly, easily and safely,” said Mr Grayling.
“These vital schemes in the east of England will not only help relieve congestion, they will also link people with jobs and businesses with customers, helping boost the region’s economy and improving lives.”
A public consultation on the plans for the A428 will be held in March to give drivers, residents and businesses a chance to comment.
Today’s announcement follows the start of works on the £1.5 billion A14 upgrade between Cambridge and Huntingdon.
