A BRAMPTON pensioner faces a possible prison sentence after a Christmas Eve trip buy buy food for his two dogs.Disqualified driver David Bruce's car was seen in the village by an off-duty police sergeant from inside the Co-op store. She called a colleague and kept watch on the vehicle until Bruce returned and set off home to Keeper's Cottage, in Grafham Road. Bruce initially denied the offence when interviewed by police, said John Goodier, prosecuting.Bruce, 68, pleaded guilty at Huntingdon Magistrates' Court last week to driving while disqualified and without insurance. The court postponed sentence until January 30 after ordering pre-sentence reports. They did not rule out the option of a prison sentence, they stressed.Mr Goodier said Bruce had been banned for three years in April 2003 for a drink-driving offence.Bruce lived in the countryside two-and-a-half miles from the centre of the village, said his solicitor, Ian Caunt. His shopping had normally been done for him by a neighbour, who had moved to Chatteris. On Christmas Eve, he had found himself without milk or food for his two dogs and had set off on the five-mile round trip."It is not likely to happen again," Mr Caunt told the court. "He has had the car scrapped.
