HUNTINGDONSHIRE planners look set to approve four 22-feet tall floodlights at an informal play area in Little Paxton in spite of residents' fears of light pollution, anti-social behaviour and additional noise and disturbance.

The village's parish council wants to put up the lights so that young people can use a multi-use games area during winter evenings. They would be switched off at 9pm each night, except for one evening when they would remain on until 10pm.

Huntingdonshire District Council has received eight letters objection to the proposal, which will be determined by the development control panel next Monday (April 20).

But the application is supported by the police, who believe the time-limit on lighting will help to reduce anti-social behaviour, and planners say the objections are not sufficient to justify refusing permission for the lights, now that the proposed wattage has been reduced from the originally-proposed 1,000 to 400.

Little Paxton Parish Council will hold its annual parish meeting on Friday (April 17) at 7.30pm in the village hall.

The meeting will look at the council's activities for the last 12 months and see the council presented with a quality certificate by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Association of Local Councils.

Guest speakers include Hunts Post editor Andy Veale, Inspector Mark Greenhalgh from St Neots police, Sarah Boulton from Wildlife Explorers and Sarah Minifie from Calor Village of the Year.

All residents are welcome to attend.
