A MOTORIST had an axe head thrown at his car as he drove along the A1096 close to the village of Hilton. The man and his wife, who are 79 and 80, were said to have had a lucky escape as the metal axe head bounced off the bonnet, hit the road and then embedded itself in the vehicle's front bumper. The couple, who have asked not to be named, were on their way home after visiting St Ives market on Monday, June 25, at about 11.20am when a passenger in a passing car threw the axe head out of a window. Luckily, no-one was injured in the incident, but the axe left a dent in the grey Ford Mondeo's bonnet and damaged the front bumper. The driver of the Mondeo told The Hunts Post he and his wife were unaware of what had hit their car until they arrived home and saw the axe.
