WORKERS at a Huntingdon-based toy company are to follow in the footsteps of Frank Skinner and Baddiel, New Order and John Barnes by releasing a World Cup song.

The Toyz, a band which includes Bruno Gallone, 47, Russell Clarke, 36, and Matthew Parlett, 41, who all work at John Adams and the Toy Brokers in Blackstone Road will be releasing the track Be the Best on April 19 to raise money for two children's charities.

Mr Gallone, a sales director at John Adams, wrote the song as a promotional track to be given away inside 10,000 table top football games, but producers suggested releasing it on their label.

"It's a really good World Cup power pop anthem that galvanises the spirit of being very positive and wanting to be better than your best," he said. "If the toy industry and football fans alike could get behind the song it might even get in to the download charts, and get more radio play which in turn would raise more money for the charities."

The toy industry has put its weight behind the single, adopting it as its official World Cup song and already raising 6,000 from CD sales at industry events.

The charities, the Toy Trust and the Fence Club, will use money raised by the track to support children's projects across the UK.

INFORMATION: Be the Best is released on Perry Road Records and will be available from iTunes, Amazon and CDbaby.
