I WAS riding home on Saturday evening, May 17, through the Thicket between St Ives and Houghton when I fell awkwardly off my bike. As I lay there, a man approached offering to help and to see if I was all right.
At first I was a little apprehensive due to the dishevelled appearance of the man, who resembled a member of the travelling community.
How wrong I was. The gentleman concerned said his name was Jeffery Western and that he had been out for the evening with a friend who lives in St Ives (hence his drunken appearance) and was on his way home to Houghton where he lived with his mother.
I would like to thank him very much for stopping to help and for the kind offer of going to his house for a cup of tea. Also, I will take up the offer of meeting up with him one Saturday for a drink in the Nelson's Head in St Ives.
