FUN FOR C.A.T.S: Caring shoppers have put a smile on the faces of users at a special centre in St Ives for adults with learning disabilities.

The Anglia Co-operative foodstore in Constable Road has donated the proceeds of its fun day in July to C.A.T.S. – and there were beaming faces galore when a cheque for 1,300 was presented at the centre in Bull Lane. The money will go towards a smartboard and computers to help C.A.T.S users communicate.

C.A.T.S – Community Action Today in St Ives – supports adults with learning disabilities such as autism and Down’s Syndrome to gain access to the community.

Support worker Kev Koslowski-Smith said: “We help our users become more active in the community by providing sport opportunities and activities like cooking, drama, music and communication education five days a week at the centre.

“Some of the users cannot talk, but can write. Others are very good artists and the smartboard will be a brilliant communication aid for them.

“It’s absolutely fantastic that the store and the people who shop there actually thought about us with their fundraising. It’s really nice to think that people can be so kind.”

The store is providing a further boost for C.A.T.S through a Pick Up A Penny fundraiser which will be wrapped up shortly.
