The A14 westbound has now been reopened after emergency work to repair a large pothole has been completed.
The pothole caused havoc for commuters today (Wednesday) after police closed the stretch of road between junction 24 for Godmanchester and junction 23 Spittals Interchange.
Motorists were stuck in nine miles of queues and experienced delays of more than an hour while work was underway.
Following the road closure, shortly after 11.30am, drivers faced an around 22 mile diversion.
Roads around the A14, including the A1198 and A428, also became congested as motorists tried to find alternative routes.
