A PRIMARY school has been named outstanding in almost every category, according to its latest Ofsted report.

Great Gidding C of E was praised for its quality of teaching and learning, while pupils were commended for their behaviour and attitude to work.

Headteacher Hilary Westcott was praised for outstanding leadership and for setting targets for improvement as part of a rolling cycle.

The report said: "Governors are very well informed about the school and are fully involved in all aspects of school life.

"Teachers plan lessons extremely well to build progressively on previous work. Across the school, boys and girls make outstanding progress on their learning.

"The curriculum is outstanding and is based very strongly on providing pupils with a broad range of experiences, supplemented exceedingly well with educational visits and clubs."

Areas for improvement suggested by inspectors were to involve older pupils and parents more explicitly in creating strategies for improvement and to develop physical, creative and imaginative development in the Foundation Stage.

Mrs Westcott said: "It is the dedication, professionalism and hard work of the whole Great Gidding team which makes out school so special and it is great that Ofsted has recognised this.
