ST IVES will have to come up with new ideas to improve its town centre after extensive public consultation failed to achieve anything remotely resembling consensus.
Huntingdonshire District Council had consulted on three possible new arrangements for Market Hill in the hope of improving access to the markets and providing better facilities for shoppers.
But, although most people agreed that something should be done, they could not agree on what that something should look like.
Now the town council, civic society, town initiative and business forum are being asked to try to reach some consensus on how HDC should spend the 1million it has set aside for the improvements.
If no agreement is reached, the money will be lost to the town and will return to the district council's general budget to be used for other priorities, HDC said.
