THE development of additionally leisure and retail facilities in St Neots town centre, potentially including a cinema, has taken a step forward.
A draft planning brief for the old fire station site in Huntingdon Street was approved by Huntingdonshire District Council's cabinet on Thursday, January 21.
Although the document does not directly mention a cinema, Cllr Barry Chapman who is leading the St Neots Town Council cinema group, said it is a positive development.
"The Huntingdon Street site has now been formally designated for leisure. The plan approved at cabinet kicks off the process for formal negotiation by commercial cinema operators wishing to provide the facility," he said.
The document allows for the construction of three buildings, additional car parking and a tree-lined pedestrian route to the town centre.
NHS Cambridgeshire also has its eye on the land as a permanent location for a super surgery.
