CONCERNING the decision by Huntingdonshire District Council to consider selling land to the highest bidder, I always thought our Council Tax was used for the benefit of the people and whatever happens to be needed most.
It has always puzzled me about the cinema in Huntingdon. A purpose-built one was right in the centre of the town - a perfect position for everybody - yet Cineworld opened just outside town, with no problems, no objections and no countless council meetings over four or five years, as has happened here in St Neots.
I do not think HDC ever intended the people here to have a cinema in this town, though we are the largest town in Cambridgeshire. The population has trebled here since the 1960s, when we had a cinema, a skating rink, a swimming pool and a youth centre - now all destroyed.
I am surprised that vandalism is not more prevalent with the youth here completely abandoned by the Huntingdonshire District Council. I just wish our councillors here would be more vocal in their endeavours and support Councillor Barry Chapman, who has given so much of his time to make this happen.
One thing we do not want is a clinic run by a private company and, as far as I am concerned, another step towards privatisation in the health service.
