HOW rich it is to see the council proposing a set of draconian cuts to services that affect many vulnerable people when they have not included themselves in the process.

If you Google ‘Councillors’ expenses for Huntingdonshire,’ you will find that last year they paid themselves a massive 389,000.

For the 52 councillors this is nearly 7,500 each, just for turning up to a few meetings!

Then they claimed another 59,000 for ‘travel and sundry’ expenses, making an annual claim of 8,615 each.

It’s comforting to know that, while they want our support in cutting back on services, they are happy to pay themselves in expenses alone more than a senior citizen can get from the old age pension.

Not to mention the glittering new hotel, sorry, council building, they have just had built.

Is it any wonder ordinary people are fed up with politicians? Why don’t they become councillors on a voluntary basis?

At least this would sort out those who want to help their community, rather than have their noses in the trough at our expense.
