HOW sad it is to see that across the country the posts of police commissioner are attracting the usual collection of “political pit-ponies” as candidates.
They may have done a steady and unremarkable job in their time, mostly in the dark, not knowing what time of day it was, and eventually becoming redundant and put out to spend their remaining days in green pastures out of harm’s way.
Is this really the sort of person we want? Surely there must be some candidates with managerial and other relevant experience, without resorting to those whose records of successful achievement in public service would still leave room for the Lord’s Prayer on a pin head?
