“The show must go on” - those were the words of Huntingdon gala organiser Malcolm Lyons on Monday morning after heavy rain pretty much washed out this year’s event.
Several groups and charities did brave the elements at the Huntingdon Riverside Gala on Saturday and were able to raise funds for good causes, but safety concerns prevented some traders from attending and local dance schools from performing.
"The show must go on, but to be honest we have never had weather as bad as this year," said Mr Lyons who is also treasurer of the organising group.
"I have been involved in this event for the last 11 years and you have to take the rough with the smooth. Despite the weather, there was a great atmosphere. We are already planning next year's event which will take place on June 6."
Mr Lyons paid tribute to the volunteers from the Unity in the Community group which provided stewards for the event.
"They were magnificent", he said.
