TWO sisters are trying to raise enough money to send their younger brother to Ireland, America or Germany for cancer treatment.

Tara Kingston from St Ives and her sister, Trudy from Wistow, need to raise £50,000 to help their brother, Richard Legg, 28, who has been suffering with various forms of cancer since he was 21.

Richard, who is now so ill that he is being looked after by his mother, Rosemary, in Sawtry, has developed late stage skin cancer which has spread to his brain.

His sister, Tara, said that treatment trials in other countries were more advanced and they had heard about a system, similar to immunisation, where cancer cells and the patient's genes could be injected into their body to help them fight the disease.

She said: "He has been treated at Addenbrooke's and Hinchingbrooke and both hospitals have been wonderful, but apparently nothing more can be done for him here.

"He needs to get treatment as soon as possible. He is such a lovely lad, he would do anything for anyone."

Mr Legg, who worked for the road maintenance company, Breheny, has had several operations to remove tumours from his limbs and back.

His sisters are starting their fundraising with a combined cake sale, tombola, jumble sale and raffle at the Rainbow Store in St Ives on Saturday, June 17.

Mrs Kingston said: "Businesses in Huntingdon and St Ives have been very generous with prizes. We have bottles of wine, a meal for two at Cromwell's Bar, handbags, silk flowers, pizzas and fish and chips."

She added that there would also be quizzes and games for children and competitions to win store vouchers.

INFORMATION: The sale starts at 9am and will go on all day. Anyone who would like to help the appeal for Richard Legg by donating items for sale or raffle can contact Tara Kingston on 07737 492444 or 07727 194391.
