SPRING Common School in Huntingdon has won The Hunts Post competition to spend £1,000 in Tesco.
Teachers from the school, which caters for special needs pupils, were invited to formally open the store's new first floor which has expanded the range on offer, selling home and electrical goods.
Teaching assistant Carol Goodship, who entered the competition on behalf of the school, cut the ribbon at the store on Monday and said: "I'm absolutely thrilled. We always work to promote the independence of the children and this is really going to help."
The prize has been won by the lower school at Spring Common where the equipment in the teaching kitchen for primary aged children is very old, Mrs Goodship said.
"We have a dilapidated old kitchen and all our baking tins are rusty and we have just started a group where youngsters make a snack meal or a light lunch once a week."
The school is hoping to buy a new cooker for the kitchen as well as crockery (from the Autumn Berry range) cutlery, cooking tins, aprons and oven gloves.
The store manager, Jason Binks, has promised to arrange for all the goods to be sent to the school in one special delivery so that the children can celebrate their arrival.
