ELECTED Mayor of St Ives for the first time, Councillor Deborah Reynolds, said she was proud to have been made an ambassador for the town.

"St Ives is the jewel of Huntingdonshire. It is a lovely market town with lovely people in it. I have some friends in the Action for Corn Exchange group, we all want to work for St Ives.

Cllr Reynolds said she was looking forward to the new Sunday market due to open in the town this summer, which she thought would be a boost for the town.

Cllr Reynolds said she would like to create mayor's cadets to accompany her on civic occasions.

She said: "I would like to appoint an individual from either the Girls' Venture Corps, the Army Cadets or the Air Training Corps, on a rotating basis so that someone came forward from each of these groups once every three years.

"You hear so many negative things about young people these days but we all know young people who work hard for the community. There is now reason why this should mean you can't go out and have fun - and this might be one way of joining the two.
