WOMEN in Huntingdonshire love two-thirds of a year longer than the national average. This is not a reference to their nocturnal proclivities, but a typing error in the district council's new gender equality scheme, Councillor Andrew Hansard assured cabinet colleagues, last week.

From last Friday, public bodies have had to promote gender equality in the same way as they already had to promote race and disability equality.

Huntingdonshire males do even better than the women, living a year and a half longer than the national average to reach the age of 78.5 years. Females still live longer here - to 81.8 years, compared with the national average of 81.14.
