DRIVERS will have to pay more in many of the district's car parks from June 1.
Huntingdonshire District Council's cabinet gave the increase the green light at its first meeting of the year.
Previously free parking at Riverside, in Huntingdon, and Bridge Place, in Godmanchester, will disappear, with weekday charges of 20p an hour or £1.50 for a maximum 10-hour stay. However, the Riverside car park in St Neots will remain free.
Elsewhere, parking in inner short-stay car parks (see panel) will rise from 30p to 40p per hour and the same increase will apply in the St Ives and St Neots Waitrose car parks.
Parking in mid-term car parks (see panel) will increase from 25p to 40p per hour, with a 23-hour stay rising to £2 from £1.50.
Among those stung by the new parking charges in Huntingdon will be HDC's staff, some London commuters, and workers at the social landlord, the Luminus Group.
On-street parking goes up to 50p per hour from 30p, while Monday-Friday season tickets will be abolished, leaving only Monday-Saturday permits, which remain at £250 per year.
Residents permits go up from £40 to £50, although as with season tickets a 25 per cent reduction will be given to low-emission vehicles.
Cars which produce less than 120 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre will be entitled to the reduced rate.
