GERMAN sweet giant Haribo is sending boxes of its sweets to a fundraising event in Huntingdonshire after reading an article in last week's Hunts Post.

One thousand bags of sweets, such as the firm's Starmix selection, are to be offered as a raffle prize at an event to raise money for injured British soldiers and their families.

The gesture comes following last week's front page interview with Royal Anglian Regiment solider, Josh Lee.

Private Lee, who was injured in a friendly fire incident while on operations in Afghanistan, was speaking about his experiences in the dangerous Helmand Province.

In the exclusive interview, the 20-year-old said the troops serving in Afghanistan looked forward to receiving Haribo sweets as a way of keeping their spirits up.

And as a result of the article, Haribo has donated rulers, a sports bag, snowglobes, a travel bag, two PE bags and 1,000 mini bags of sweets to the raffle.

The goods will be added to the list of prizes which will be raffled at a talk being hosted by Josh in Kimbolton on Friday.

A spokesman for Haribo, said: "We saw The Hunts Post article on the internet and are always happy to see that our sweets make soldiers happy and give them a little fun moment."

She added: "I hope the event will be a big success and that the raffle prizes we contributed will help to raise some money for the fund."

Josh, who lives in Stonely, will be giving an insight into his life in Afghanistan during a a presentation in the Lewis Hall at Kimbolton Castle.

The event has been organised by the Royal British Legion (RBL) and will include a talk by Major Charles Calder of the Royal Anglian Regiment.

Money raised on the evening will go to the Royal Anglian Afghanistan Memorial Fund.

INFORMATION: The event starts at 7pm. Tickets cost £6 and must be purchased in advance from The Saddle, The Framery, Landins, all in Kimbolton High Street or from The Hunts Post offices in High Street, Huntingdon. www.army.mod.uk
