THE good old NHS has come in for a bit of a battering lately, and I feel that the time has come for me to write in praise of all the wonderful staff at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon.
On Saturday evening, March 15, I was involved in a car accident on the A141 and, luckily, my worst injury was a broken ankle. The care shown from the ambulance driver to the staff in the A&E and X-ray departments was superb. I found them all to be courteous, good-humoured and very efficient, keeping me well informed at every stage.
My injury required an operation, requiring readmission on Wednesday morning. Again, the staff were marvellous, keeping me well informed about the procedure, the risks and eventual outcome of the operation. After the operation I was sent back to the ward to recover and, once again, the staff were extremely attentive, always cheerful, polite and well mannered. I felt that I could not be in better hands.
Many people seem to worry about cleanliness in our hospitals and, from this experience; I found these fears to be unfounded.
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped care for me during my stay: the A&E staff, the ambulance driver, the X-ray staff, Mr D Rajan and the theatre team, the wonderful people on the ward in the procedure unit and finally the volunteer hospital driver who brought me home.
I hope you will print this letter to show others that the NHS is not all bad.
