A SECRET auction for a meal for two at The Old Bridge Hotel in Huntingdon raised £265 for The Hunts Post New Life Appeal for maternity services at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

The appeal is to raise £70,000 for facilities including the Special Care Baby Unit.

The bids for the meal took place just before the winners were announced at The Huntingdonshire Food and Drink Awards ceremony at The Old Bridge last week. Money was placed in envelopes by those short-listed to take the prizes for Best Restaurant, Best Pub, Best Local Food Producer and Best Independent Retailer.

The winner of winner of the Young Chef Competition had already been decided at a cook-off by four finalists at Saxongate in Huntingdon town centre.

The winner of the auction for the meal was drawn by John Hoskins owner of The Old Bridge.

As reported in The Hunt Post Last Week, the winners in The Huntingdonshire Food Awards were: The Old Bridge for Best Restaurant, The Oliver Cromwell in St Ives for Best Pub, Nutty Tarts for Best Local Producer, Top Banana for Best Independent Retailer and Fullards Farm for Best Breakfast. Young Chef was won by Charlotte Ward, 12, from Kimbolton School.
