NEARLY 200 St Neots workers are set to lose their jobs as administrators admit failure to find a buyer for the troubled automotive business. In a week in which US car manufacturers and component suppliers have also predicted extensive job losses in an over-crowded marketplace, administrators have revealed that production at Collins & Aikman Automotive Limited will stop in June. The company's European businesses, including the St Neots site, have been in administration since July last year following significant losses. But administrators Kroll Group have failed to find a buyer and will start a process of consultation with representatives of the 182 permanent employees at the plant in Cromwell Road, St Neots."Since the administration, options for the business have been reviewed, including the sale of the St Neots plant as a going concern," Kroll said. "However, despite the best endeavours of all concerned, including the management, the trade unions and the employees, no potential buyers have come forward."Joint administrator Alastair Beveridge added: "With the prospect of ongoing losses, continuing manufacturing operations at St Neots is, unfortunately, no longer viable".
