SAWTRY has a state-of-the-art fitness suite following a £1million extension at Sawtry Leisure Centre.

The project, which took 10 months to complete, was officially opened by Councillor Phillip Swales on July 16.

Free face painting and fitness classes were on offer and visitors were given a tour of the new facilities, including the Impressions Fitness Suite, air-conditioned dance studio, creche, changing room facilities and reception area.

Cllr Jean Chandler, leisure executive at Huntingdonshire District Council, said: "The extension to facilities will be a valuable addition to Huntingdonshire District Council's sport and leisure provision.

"We are certain that customers of all ages will benefit from our investment for many years to come."

Ellena Reid, seven, from Great Gidding Primary School, read her poem Why Exercise is Good For You at the opening and was presented with £50 of leisure centre vouchers and a Sport England goodie bag.
