A GENEROUS animal lover has left Wood Green Animal Shelters more than £100,000 in his will - providing a huge contribution towards the cost of a new surgery. Peter Edwards, of Market Deeping, died in 2005. His legacy of £106,000 will be put towards the £250,000 cost of the new surgery redevelopment, which will begin within the next few months. Dennis Baker, chief executive of the animal charity, said: "This is a wonderful legacy to Wood Green, which we are delighted about. "Mr Edwards was clearly a very generous man and his devotion to animals is obvious. Putting the money towards the building of the new surgery area is a fitting tribute to him." The new surgery is needed to help treat a third of the animals which arrive at the centre in need of veterinary treatment. Money is also being raised through the 'Poorly Pets Appeal', and so far £170,000 has been collected, including Mr Edwards' donation. Wood Green has been rescuing and re-homing animals since 1924, taking in over 6,000 animals a year.
