Age UKs Ambury Road Day Centre for older people was handed a dishwasher by the British Heart Foundation, which will allow volunteers and centre users to continue to operate the premises. The idea came from a worker at the day centre, Dee Makanda, who contacted the British Heart Foundation to see if they could help out after the centres old dishwasher had broken down. Staff were overjoyed when the British Heart Foundation said it would donate the centre a new dishwasher and the appliance was delivered just a few days later. The day centre, which is located next to Huntingdon Primary School, provides opportunities for older people in the community to socialise and feel secure in a happy and stimulating environment. The centre provide games, quizzes, entertainment, and outings as well as a two-course hot meal. They are open on Wednesday and Fridays, from 9.30am-2.30pm. The centre is run by Ms Makanda and Teresa Kaye, who are supported by a team of volunteers Sally, Judy and Joe. Ms Makanda said the help of volunteers was indispensable and added that the centre was always looking for more volunteers to help.
